i was born on the shore rd in 1957,in the old prefabs or bunglaows does anyone recall them ?,they used to burst into flames for no reason ,the place was alive with rats ,as it backed onto the tip head .i know now that the motorway runs over the area .

great you started this thread my aunt lived in the prefabs her daughter & grandson lived with her lost touch with them granson was called willy there prefab back on to the railway line

Hi robertc1 my parents lived in the prefabs in the fifties and my brother and sister were born there, I think it might have been Downview Park
they moved in 1956

Hi, Robert,   my wife was born in the prefabs in 1959, just one of eleven children, they later moved to to the woodvale , then highfield and finally to the top of the ballygomartin facing the boys school,  her dad always told me the prefabs was the best housing they had lived in. melv.

hi Rosser and melv,i was born in the prefabs in 1957,so would been the same time ,i lived at number 5 downview bunglaows ,,see if any of these names ring any bells, Creighton,corrs,branock,sheridan,patterson,all of these lived in the downview area.thanks Rob.

yes my cousin lived in one it might have been the late 50s/early 60s do you remember Tates Row down from the bungalows?

It was at the bottom of the wee chaple the star of the sea  dont know if the chaple is still there..

I'd love to see some pictures of the Shore Road from the 60's up to the late 80's.

I've lived on the Shore Road most of my life, and I remember so many shops that are now gone / changed. Things like Harry the barber who worked at the old flats, then moved to besides the dentist where the Golden Fry is (oh, and Jacksons newsagents in the same row).

hi richard, do you rem mclowes paper shop? ,and the jamesons, they used to have an old garage ,one of the brothers was always in trouble with police, thats back in the 60s,

Hi Robert, no unfortunately I don't remember as i'm "only" 29 (lol) but i'll ask my mum if she remembers as she was brought up in Mount Vernon. :)
