Finiston Primary School
« on: September 23, 2008, 11:06:10 AM »
Does anyone have a pic of Finniston primary School?  I went there and can remember when the Army took over part of the School. If i remember correctly the part that they took over was the old dinner hall.

Hi Andy,

Sorry that was a bit before my time :) I went there in the late 60's and then went on to the girls model. Mr Stewart was the head.

Hi

I went to finiston school as did my older sister and younger brother.  We lived in Heathfield Road from 1964 -1974.  Times were tough at the school at that time with the Army based there, however have really fond memories of the wee school :-)

mr stewart was the headmaster when i joined the school, replaced by mr russell who in later years became head master of carrs glen primary school.

I was devastated to find that there had been a wee night at finiston school before it was pulled down.  had i known this - i would have definitely been there.   Was anyone on the forums at this night - would love to hear about it?

perhaps there should be a reunion for all past pupils - what a laugh that would be - i wonder how many people we'd recognise there eh

Hello Everyone who attended Finiston Primary School

I am hoping to complete a piece on Finiston school.  I would like to include stories from those who attended the school.  If you're interested in helping with this please send a message to my personal email.  I hope to, in the next few weeks speak to past teachers of the school and acquire some copies of photos.

This is just for personal interest only, so if you can contribute, I would be very grateful.  Obviously in return I would pass on any photos etc that I can get in connection with the school to those who would like them.

That's right. My mum went to Finiston Primary and told me she remembers him from school. She was born 1943 so I'd imagine she was there from 48-55. Her name is Helen Gillespie and she lived in Ballycarry St. (or was is ballymacarry?)

Ballycarry Street was almost wiped out and extensive damage was done in Gracehill Street, Louisa Street, Walton Street, Sylvan Street, Ballynure Street.
