Do you not think it is time that the ex- pat Irish "got over it " and put their energy into their new "adopted country"

That is why I said that I am Canadian. Not Irish Canadian or Canadian Irish, but Canadian, it's called integration, but then again that is a "dirty word " to some people.

Not that I am ashamed to be known as Irish, But Canada is now my home, therefor I am Canadian.

It's great to see Canadians setting the lead although I have not heard the Australians calling themselves Irish Aussies. It is those Irish Americans that really annoy me. As you say Bloonfield they, like the Irish in Canada, should be proud of their Irish links but they are Americans.

I discussed the matter with an aquaintance the other day .. let's call him "A. Taxi Driver" He told me there are a couple of Egyptians in your part of Belfast. Now if Belfast is ready for people from Egypt Belfast is ready for people from anywhere.

I assume you say this with your tongue firmly in your cheek, Christopher?

i came home to belfast last year to visit and was shocked at many forigeners but not suprised as i now live in england and have seen it happen here, i can understand why people worry as the feel they are losing there national identity, well here in england anyway people feel as though england isnt english anymore but myself being a forgener in another counrty i see it as a good thing(i have to i suppose) different cultures can bring so much to an esisting culture. especially in belfast where the two communities cant get along then maybe different and varied communities might show some small minded people that there is a big wide world out there and people are different but we all still have to get along regardless of race or religion

Madeofstone, you were "shocked"?  Why on earth were you "shocked" to see non-Northern Irish people in Belfast?

And how were you able to tell all of them apart from those people who have been born here?

I'm glad to see so many people from outside NI coming to live here.  For a start, it is an indication of normality.  So long as they are useful and law abiding members of our society, I hope and think they will contribute much that we are unable to contribute ourselves.

because when i lived in twinbrook three years ago id never even met a person who came from outside of the twinbrook/poleglass area let alone from another country! as for how could i tell they were from another country i think thats obvious different language for a start, im with you i think its a great thing and i hope it will open belfast locals to different cultures and i think the irish would have a cheek telling immigrants no to come here, we have emigrated to every part of the world sime the dawn of time, theres probably an irish pub on the moon

I saw a very interesting B.B.C. documentry on the tele in Canada, it was called the " History of the English language "

It said, that it was the Hatred of the Irish people for the English, that caused so many of them to leave Ireland, and in so doing spread the English language and music throughout the world.
It showed the Irish Immigration path through North America, and followed the musical influence , from Blue Grass in the East , to Country and Western in the West.

I can't stand C & W music.   >:(

Now, Blues is different.  I have it on "Shoutcast" at the moment.

The B.B.C documentry said that C & W was just an extension of traditional Irish music-----May the good Lord forgive you. :o

There is little chance of the Good Lord forgiving me of anything   :'(

BTW I HATE IRISH AND SCOTTISH TRADITIONAL MUSIC EVEN MORE THAN C & W.

Fortunately, even though it is July, I haven't heard a single Orange note.   ;D
