Ulster and Manchester connections with Kylemore Castle.
« on: October 23, 2006, 10:27:15 AM »
I'm posting this message on the Genealogy board in case anyone is researching families with the surnames ... Brush (Killinchy), Henry (Manchester) or Vaughan (Quilly House, Co. Down).

The Manchester Evening News was founded in 1868 by Mitchell Henry, FRCS (1826-1910) as part of his Parliamentary election campaign. Mitchell had connections with both the north and south of Ireland of Ireland as his mother, Elizabeth, was a daughter of George Brush of Willowbrook, Killinchy, County Down. In 1852, Mitchell married Margaret Vaughan of Quilly House, County Down.

Mitchell built Kylemore Castle in Connemara, Co. Galway. The work commenced in 1867 and was completed in 1871. He was a good landlord who spent most of his fortune on the estate as well as for the benefit of the local people. After the death of his wife Margaret in 1875, Mitchell did not spend much time there. He and his wife are both buried in the church near Kylemore.

Wasn't George Basil's son?  ;D
People want to know how much you care, before they care how much you know.
