Hot Rod / Stock Car Racing
« on: November 12, 2006, 07:50:49 PM »
Formula 2 Hot Road Racing has been taking place at Nutts Corner raceway since 1989. Following the closure of Dunmore, at the end of 1987, there was no racing in the Belfast area throughout 1988, until Ian Thompson opened  the Nutt's Corner track in 1989. There's another Co. Antrim Hot Rod track at Ballymena Raceway which has been running since 1977.

I used to go to some stock races when I was younger an old boyfriend used to race in them, it became fashionable again in the 90s didn't it?  Wouldn't mind going to a race again.

There used to be stock car racing at the football grounds in Bangor. Wrecked the football pitch but was good entertainment

Never been to that one Ardie. Had an old ford anglia in 1975. Only cost me eight quid.
Put a big head in it and a 1500 engine , twin webbers and the rest, wide bore exhaust. Painted it bright yellow . It went to dunmore and was completely trashed before finishing a single lap.  :(
If it was'nt for venetian blinds it would be curtains for everybody!

It was indeed a 105E, think it was originally a 1200 cc.
The engine came from a trashed cortina 1500e if i remember rightly and the webbers .
After it went I bought a cooper. Put a modified morris 1300 engine in it and twin 1.5 inxh SU carbs and a pull down front bonnet. Wheel spacers the lot. Took it to the circuit of Irealnd where I was marshalling and wrecked the suspension on way home. After that I got sensible and drove a morris marina. TC of coourse. ;D

I was looking online for a guy who did some stock car racing but couldn't find him ... I think Wilson Ormonde is the right name. He used to race in England too.

It might be an idea to post a few names of the drivers, Ardie. It's quite a good way of drawing new members to the Forum. A collection of programmes can come in handy from time to time.

I'll try and scan a driver's list in from one of the programmes and see if any familiar ones are on there. Good idea 8)
