Hello Everybody

I've been doing a bit of research of my family tree and have discovered that some relatives lived in streets in Belfast that unfortunately no longer exist  :-[
Is there a database of Belfast Street photographs? or it that just wishful thinking on my part?

Hello thecadfella,

Welcome aboard.

There should be such a database but I can't find much other than these words ...

"CHANGED TIMES" A Nostalgic Social History Series from a collection of more than 20,000 Photographs of Belfast street scenes in the North of Ireland. 30 Years of Local History before during and after the Troubles. A Presentation from one of a complete series of Personal Photographic Recollections of life in the Falls and Shankill Road areas of Belfast during the 1960s - 1970s - 1980s - 1990s and the year 2000 by Freelance Photojournalist and Writer Vincent Dargan.

Hello Christopher

Many thanks, glad to be aboard.

There should indeed be such a database (in my opinion) as we seem to document most other things, i.e census, ordanance survey etc it seems a little strange that photographs aren't included.

I'm hoping somebody out there in belfastforum land is going to come up trumps for me.
Out of my four sets of great-grandparents, only one house remains intact.
The other streets have long since gone. One is still a street but with a new layout and new houses, the other is a kiddies playpark right in the middle of a "peaceline" and the other was where the Westlink now is.

Really rather sad.

Hi Christopher

I was very interested in your comments regarding :

"CHANGED TIMES" A Nostalgic Social History Series from a collection of more than 20,000 Photographs of Belfast street scenes in the North of Ireland.

How and where can I get this from.

Kind regards
Nicci

I think that is a great idea.  Manchester libraries have done a similar thing.  They have put 70,000 images of Manchester streets online.  It would be a great  if they could do the same with Belfast streets.

Hello Christopher, You did not mention the names of the streets you are looking for. I think I may be able to help.??? Google my name Vincent Dargan and you will see many of the streets you mentioned which were on the Grosvenor Road before they built the West Link Motorway. Here is my Profile Link on the Queens University Database.  http://www.ark.ac.uk/cgi-bin/qual/qualdb.pl?full=135
