Hi Jim, Patsy McCartney here I got your PM and have replied to in an email. Does anyone here remember the time they dug up all the pavers and then put in new sewers and water lines. I must have been about six years old at the time. I fondly remember sitting in the watchman's  hut with the old coke brazier going, oil lamps were used to light the interior and it was not unusual to share his tea. In these days of political correctness that would not be allowed. Sad they wouldn't know what they missed, that was a more innocent time when kids were allowed to be kids. You showed up at home to eat and then back out the door. Who among us remembers our mothers shouting get you out that door and give my bloody head peace.
yes remember it very well  :D

Hello Shamrock249,

My grandfather lived at 24 Cape Street. Do you know the Uglow/Curran family? My Grandfather was Cecil (Gordon) Uglow born in 1921. His mother was Mona Curran. Just looking to see if anyone knew them. Does Cape Street still exist?

Thank you,

Kim Fazekas

Hi Uglow/Curran,  Before my time i'm afraid. I was born in 1944 in number 23, just across the street. I looked through some of the old Belfast street directories and found a Thomas Curran, Labourer living at that address in the 1918 and 1924 directories. There were different families living in number 24 in 1912 and 1932 so Thomas lived there in between.

Hello,

Thanks for the reply and for checking the street directories. Maybe Thomas was a relative of mine. Is Cape Street still in existence? I would love to visit if it is. Doing my ancestry research is pretty amazing. You have definitely helped me!!

Thanks,

Kim Fazekas

Hi Kim, Sorry but Cape St was torn down back in the late seventies. They were redeveloping large parts of the town back then. I do have some photos of Cape St but I can't post them in this site. If you send me a PM (just click on my name) with your email address I can send them to you. Thanks, Jim.
