The Lily bar was I think in Sandy Row.

The Lily bar was indeed in Sandy Row. The only information I have on it is that it was owned by John McNair, who also owned an antique shop next door. Today the bar is owned by his daughter Valarie.

As far as I know the Lily was bought over by Billy McCann and his wife Lila.  I remeber they used to sell fortified wine from a big barrel and you could bring your own bottles down to be filled.  The stuff was like drinking varnish.

In fact maybe it was varnish.  :)

I think it was the Lily that had a full size old telephone box in the middle of the bar floor.  I remeber once going into the toilets and the copper pipes where surrounded by barbed wire.

Hi Alexandergibson
Yes the lily was in Albion st
John McNair owned it and hearn managed it
It was the first pub to put a full size snooker
table into it and the great alex higgins
played on it not long after he won his first world title
my father and his old mates drank in it
because we were under age we had ask hearn
if we could play on it and he more often than
not obliged by the way if you are talking to him
tell him Jimbo says hello
