Bobdenn,

thanks for that info but its not the same book.
This book was written by GB Kenna (Father John Hassan) and published by Donaldson Archives in1997. I bought a copy of it in the bookshop which used to be in Donegall Street across from the Chapel some years ago but someone borrowed it and it was never returned.

Subject: [IRELAND] THE BELFAST POGROMS 1920-22
Date: Sat, 22 Dec 2001 12:07:44 +0000
'Facts and Figures of the Belfast Pogrom 1920-22' is a book with
a strange history.

It is believed that the book was withdrawn on the day of
publication in 1922 or soon afterwards.

The Catholic Church authorities in the North of Ireland and the
Government of the Irish Free State feared it would cause an
upsurge of sectarian violence that had begun in 1920 but which
had shown signs of subsiding in the late summer of 1922.

Facts and Figures is an eyewitness account of the violence that
marked the beginnings of Northern Ireland under its British
subordinate Government and Parliament.

In much the same way the Civil War in Southern Ireland marked the
emergence of the Irish Free State. There was one terrifying
difference between the Civil War in Southern Ireland and the
sectarian war that was waging in Belfast.

In the Civil War most of the causalities were military
belligerents, volunteers of the Irish Republican Army and
soldiers of the Free State Army. While in Belfast the people who
suffered and died where just ordinary men, women and children.

"G B Kenna" is a pseudonym. The author of the book was Father
John Hassan, curate in St. Mary's Church, Chapel Lane, Belfast
during the years of the pogrom.

Facts and figures of the Belfast Pogrom is an historic document
that should be of immense value and interest to the people of
Belfast, Catholic and Protestants alike. The book will give any
man or woman or Irish birth or descent, an insight into what life
was like in Belfast during the 1920-22 period.

Many Belfast families may recognize their own parents,
grandparents among the people whose names are in the book.

A reprint of the book in 1997 rescues the book from what might
have been total loss and makes it available to readers,
historians and researchers of the present generation and future
generations.
