employed as a machine muster!!!
« on: June 12, 2006, 12:55:22 PM »
would anyone have any idea what a machine muster did back in 1893? where he was employed? was it the flax mills? or a different mill? would be grateful if people could share their thoughts on this employment or if they would dig out their grandfather's paperwork to see if he was a machine muster

Hiya Joe,

I think that relative of yours was a machine master rather than a machine muster. I would guess the master was in charge of so many machines and it was his duty to see that they all worked properly. He was probably in a cotton or a linen mill.

Best Wishes, Christopher

did that mean he was well paid? earned enough money to feed his children back in 1893?
