Bicentenary Of The Abolition Of The Slave Trade
« on: March 25, 2007, 07:44:06 PM »
There are events taking place throughout England and programmes on the radio to mark the Bicentenary
of the Abolition of the Slave Trade. Young kids are reading poems and stories about slavery on the Sunday evening programme "Go For It" which is specially produced for children and presented by Barny Harwood.
In Northern Ireland it appears that we are not celebrating this event. Instead we are celebrating Intercultural and Anti Racism Week. I read a bit more of the article and discovered that there was a joint evening event in Queens Film Theatre organised by the Equality Commission and the Northern Ireland Committee/Irish Congress of Trade Unions marking the Bi-centenary of the Abolition of Slavery
