Joseph and Ann Maria SINGLETON
« on: June 30, 2010, 10:11:03 PM »
I am still trying to find my relatives in Northern Ireland who are descended from this couple.   If you know any SINGLETON's please point them in my direction.  Many thanks.   They lived in Figullar, Monaghan in the mid-late 1800 's.   Many (there were at least 13 children  ::) ) moved to Belfast and other areas in the Province.

Hi Carol, in case you havent seen
From about 1861
www.Askaboutireland.Ie/Griffith-Valuation/
I spotted 3 of your likely line
[Figullar District includes some or all of the civil parish of Errigal Trough ] and and includes three townlands where Singletons are living ie Elvey, Killydonagh,
Killyfaragh.
a Matthew Singleton  is living in  Muckno
Griffiths is special as you can normally find a map showing the homestead boundaries for each person

And the 1911 census they still live there see www.census.nationalarchives.ie/
In the same census I found
Two Rose Singletons from Co Monaghan were living in Belfast 1911
And a Wilson Robert Singleton from Co Monaghan in the RIC , living in Comber with his growing family
Good luck

Thank you I did have a lot of that but one or 2 names not seen before.  Lots of names not anywhere so I think they may have gone to the U.S.A. in the early days.   Thanks for your trouble JimG

Hiya-bear with me-I only discovered this site this morning and have only been actively researching the Singletons recently. My connection comes through the Mcleans who are mentioned in the 1911 census. My grandfather Joseph Henry McLean was the son of Mary Singleton and Thomas Mclean. Mary was the daughter of Ann Maria and Joseph so they were my gt gt grandparents. Mary and Thomas also came to Belfast ,where they went on to have a big family themselves-even adopting three children.

Excited to know of another relation out there.  Will send you my email address in a private message soon as lots to tell/ask  about the family and maybe you can fill in some of the many gaps I have.  At very least we have found each other.  :)
