The Ulster New Zealand Trust
« on: April 10, 2007, 11:19:07 PM »
The Ulster New Zealand Trust, a registered charity, was established in 1988 to restore the building now known as Ballance House, which was the birthplace at Glenavy of New Zealand Prime Minister, John Ballance (1839-93) who founded the Wanganui Herald before entering Parliament in 1875. Elected as Prime Minister in 1890, Ballance launched major land reforms, paved the way for women's votes and introduced the world's first welfare state.
