One of the most bizarre photographs I have ever seen. Clearly there is a riot going on, but there, stuck in the middle of it all is, an Elephant. Can anyone explain this ? (no wisecracks please) did anyone witness this event ? Does anyone have any knowledge of this ?   :)

IMHO, there's something not right about the whole perspective of the elephant in this image.

In particular, look at the outline of the elephant's front legs, for they don't look natural for being 'in situ'.  Its front right leg seems very awkwardly placed in the context of the surrounding image, and despite it being on the ground (it has to be, since the front left leg definitely isn't), the footpad isn't sitting flat on what otherwise looks like flat ground.  In addition, the definition of both front legs is at odds with the smoky consistency of the immediate surroundings, in particular note the back of the man's leg that can be seen between the elephants front legs - the man is obviously VERY close to the elephant, but his leg is in a veil of smoke that somehow stops abruptly at the outline edge of the elephant's leg. (It mightn't be actual smoke, it might just be a cloudy discoloration on the photo, either way, the elephant's front legs don't seem to be affected while other parts of the image around it are.  In that regard, also look at the second soldier from the left and how his head and helmet seem to have strangely 'bled' into the elephant's leg. Curious or what?).

So while the image of the riot looks genuine, I wouldn't rule out it having been manipulated to add the elephant. Look forward to hearing other opinions...

JackM I would say also that the photo is superimposed . As CMcG says , the front legs of the elephant aren’t right , they don’t “blend “ with the mans legs behind .

That elephant's front legs certainly do look out of proportion. Also the rioting crowd on the pavement, left of photo are not giving the beast the attention you would in those circumstances. Was the space occupied by the elephant not a barricade or car of some sort that has been air brushed out and the image of an elephant put it its place ?

Superb photographs Jack of Sir Winston.

The greatest man of our time-we owe a tremendous debt to him for the lives we have been fortunate
to live in freedom and democracy in G.B. and Northern Ireland against all the odds when we stood alone.
He and the Royal family gave the people the strength and determination to defeat Germany ,Hitlar and
his diabolical plans to rule the world under the Nazi Jackboot.

May this never be forgotten by future generations.

Lol. That's up for debate.
