Great picture Boxer. Was just talking the other day about Lilliput Road that would have run up from York st to North queen St just behind were those billboards are.

My Father's last address in Belfast was 2 Arosa Parade where he lived with his Father, Samuel sr
and his Mother Sarah. He left Belfast in 1940 and joined Wimpey. His Father, my GF died in
Purdeysburn Hospital March 1940. His Mother, my GM died the following year. I'm rather sure where Dad lived was close to York Road. How far would he have lived from the shops in the
photo in 3 posts up please ?

Thank you Boxer.
Dad worked there and I can still smell the new bread as he trundled out in his silent van to pick me up from where I was waiting at the corner of Ormeau Avenue before dawn in the school holidays.
Wonderful memories from 60 years ago.
Never get tired of seeing that photo.
Stop the ride, I want to get off and go back.

the gate was the entrance to the engine works. just inside the gate to the right was a very steep ramp to test these tanks the tanks were manufactured in the blacksmiths shop. i worked as a hammer boy in this shop when i was 15 in 1965. the ramp was still there and it was steep we could hardly climb it

Would it not be better to have a dedicated photo thread to H&W ?
It seems unfair that certain posters are bombarding us with H&W photographs over and over. Its as if their forcing H&W down our throats.
Especially unfair, given its (H&W) chequered past.
Please for fairness sake, if thats possible, start an exclusively H&W thread.
jjmac and welder etc, can post to their hearts content....Simple.
