John was on the phone to Mum last night... she say's hi... will show her the photos now that I can see them.. don't know what went wrong on our posts but got them in the end... will have to see what photos she has... Marney had loads don't know what happend to them, never thought about them at the time... hope someone has them not the dump.

Ive been looking for ages for photos of the Whitewell during the Blitz,
I have only manged to find 3.
All relating to Veryan Gardens.

Does anyone remember mr.polkinghorn shore road when you went for lettuce @ scallions at his house he used to give you a rose?

Yes, I remember "old pokie"  I did some research way back and found he had been a clerk working In belfast at the turn of the century. I remember he was a bit eccentric, occasionally wearing a tasseled smoking jacket and hat and also carried a gentleman's walking cane He was paranoid about possible theft of his tomatoes which he grew in a large green house just up from where McShanes fireplaces were. ( in my day Robinsons Grocery Shop, or "Robbies" )
I think he was an Englishman, living alone. He was very old and a bit stooped. He must have passed away around 1960.
