Thomas McGrann - Commercial artist - any info available?
« on: January 27, 2011, 10:17:19 AM »
Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone has any information on Thomas McGrann, an artist who lived at 34 Storkman's Avenue in the 1960s? I believe him to be a relative of mine, and I am especially interested as I too am an artist and I didn't know that there were any other artists in the family.

Many thanks for any information that anyone can offer.

Ok so can anyone think where a good place to look for information on artists from Belfast might be?
Does anyone know of the address mentioned?

Many thanks

Hi,
Not aware of a Storkmans Ave. I wonder if you mean Stockmans Ave. If so it is easily found on Google Maps.

I think you are probably right, it was probably just a spelling mistake in the street directory. Thanks for putting me right.

Stockmans runs from Lisburn Road through Boucher Road up to the Kennedy Way Roundabout into Andersonstown.  The area to the left of the Kennedy Way roundabout is all Stockmans...ie Drive, Parade,Avenue

Hi Raicheal it's definately Stockmans lane, I lived there myself through to the nineties and then moved abroad. I remember him well he was a lovely man, was very intelligent and could speak a few languages. I knew he had  a daughter & a brother with two children one of whom had the same name. I was wondering If Rig you could possibly be that Nephew?

Hello Jude,

thanks for the information. Do you happen to know anything about his artwork? Did he paint? What kind of subjects etc?
Thanks ever so much.
