Jeez, this is spooky, every time I think about something Belfast related, a topic about it seems to pop up on the B/F.

For some reason in the past couple of days I was thinking about the G.P.O. in Belfast and wondering what might have become of it.

Wasn't it in North Street near the junction with Gresham Street, or am I fuddled. ?

The thing that always used to catch my attention about it, and perhaps caused it to stick in my memory, was that there always used to be a policeman with a huge pistol holster on duty outside the entrance, and the way I remember it, the policeman always seemed to be huge as well.

John, the Gpo  was in Royal Avenue and I think corner of Garfield Street, the Avenue picture house was on the other corner, but I know where your coming from, there was a gate way in North Street just above Gresham street, which led to a open space where all the post office vans where kept. Sam

bobdenn,

Great photo but it can't be 1969. Probably pre 1963 when the number 7 trolley bus route to Whitehouse changed to diesel buses going to Greencastle.

Definitely no later than 12 May 1968, as this was when the last trolley buses ran in Belfast.

When I was at school, I had a Xmas sorting job in there in 1964.
