Foundry.   The GNR Central Branch line ran over Memel Street Arch connecting the BCDR to the GNR.

H All
Foundry  the link between BCDR and GNR  was deunct until the new Central station was built on the link line .This also meant that the GNR station beside the Europa hotel was closed down.

Hi All
Tommybeef  I meant the old GNR station that front the street not the one inside the translink station

Hi All
Baywood a very crafty play on words to describe the Sirrocco  works and their products. Bravo. Is all the land around Memel St still not developed bridge end side. The land along Short Strand appears to have been left due to a lack of development money.

Hi All

welcome to th BF  francey  I am aware the rilway bridge is still in place at what was the entrance to Memel St. What I wanted to know was If the land that was under the arch  where Memel St Baltic St and others was developed or was it still lying idle.

It's still lying idle, at the corner of Short Strand and Bridge End there is still some advertising hoardings up with an artists impression of the new development that was being planned. The billboards were barely up when the recession started to bite and the developers decided to hold off for the foreseeable future! On another point, do you know that the 1956 film 'Jacqueline' starring John Gregson (star of Whisky Galore and the Lavender Hill mob..to name a few) was filmed in and around Memel Street and the arch featured heavily throughout the movie?
