I Miss The Smell Of Belfast
« on: May 27, 2011, 10:41:59 PM »
I currently live in Donegal, so I'm not that far away. But I live in the country, and when I visit my parents back in the big smoke I  realise how much I miss city smells, even though they should be repugnant.

Like the smell of the nearby factory and the fumes from the motorway behind the estate. Unhealthy on paper, but healthy in mind.  Give me a slight hint of smog over pig slurry anyday!

Do any other exiles feel the same way, or am I slightly mad?

Welcome Many LanguagesWelcome to the forum Northside Exile, hope you stick around and meet with all the great people on here.

There is nothing worse than the smell in Belfast City Centre on a hot day!!  The smell from the sewers would make you want to bok!  Though, having said that, I've not been in the Centre this long and many a day.

Where I live, I was only 9 years old when we moved here, we had a Brewery near us, and the first time we got the wiff from it, we all thought we'd have to move, but got used to it over the years.  Now it's pulled down and new housing is being built - could stick the old smell more than all the blooming dust, dirt and vermin coming from the building works now! :( :D

I only got drunk, I never got stupid!

Murray's tobacco factory on the corner of the Boyne Bridge. I can remember the smell coming out of there if they had the windows open. Don't think it's there anymore now.

I know it's a different 'city' but can anyone remember the smell of the Burnhouse in Lisburn? On a still summers day  if the wind was in the right direction you could get a draw from it in Kelly's Cellars

I don't think so Tboy,  I haven't had a drink since Christmas.   One glass of wine a year is about my limit. :D

I am not on the wagon or an ex Alcoholic I just never acquired a taste for drink.  I wouldn't care if I never had it. I'd rather have a bar of chocolate. :D
