One of the smells that I detested in Belfast was the smell of stale Guinness and that seems to have been eliminated ....possibly because the barrels are sealed. ;)

Can anyone remember Littlewoods in the City Centre. in the mid 1950's my Auntie Margaret used to take me in there. They had huge clear plastic pillars on the sweetie counter filled with Liquorice allsorts, jelly beans and other sweets. It smelt lovely and sweet and as they sold the sweets the level would drop in the pillars. She always treated me to something from the sweetie counter. :)
Yes my buddy was WILD in love with a girl who worked there in the 70's Colette.
My sister used to work there and was confused when confronted with an even broader Belfast accent than ours.
" Wheres Blak Sacks?" was, she found out the hard way, actually an enquiry about hosiery....
