Anderson family in Belfast.
« on: September 20, 2011, 05:06:00 AM »
On the 11th of January 1922 my grandparents Andrew and Elizabeth Anderson both workers at Ewart's mill were shot and killed at 37 Hooker Street, Belfast. My father Andrew, the eldest emigrated to New Zealand aged approx. 20 a couple of years later leaving behind 3 brothers and a sister. One brother George died at age 11 but I often wonder if Samuel and Tom the other two brothers had any family.  An incredibly long shot but worth a go.

These are the Irish registration records which up to the beginning of 1922 also include the records for what is now Northern Ireland.

From 1922 onwards the registration records for Northern Ireland are in GRONI in Belfast.

Pottinger is a mainly Protestant/Unionist area of Belfast, and Hooker Street was in the Ardoyne area of Belfast which is now a Catholic/Nationalist area, and your family were Presbyterians,... but I've been told that the religious demographics in that area were very different back then.

Because you have an Irish parent, both you and any children whom you may have, are entitled to have an Irish passport.

There were a lot of similar murders at that time, and many of them are listed on the picture in the link below.

There is a picture of their children and details of the murder at the bottom of the page on the picture on the link below, which should enlarge if you left click on the  image when it opens.
