Donaghadee Lifeboat Crew - 1953
« on: October 02, 2011, 06:10:54 PM »
Donaghadee lifeboat crew

The crew of the Donaghadee Lifeboat Sir Samuel Kelly in January 1953, taken after the rescue of the Princess Victoria survivors with Hugh Nelson, the coxwain, sitting in the foreground. His son Hugh, who is the only crew survivor and still living in Donaghadee, is fourth in from the right. The lifeboat has been preserved and can be seen in a boat park behind the Lifeboat Station. There have been several attempts to make it the centrepiece of a Lifeboat Museum but lack of funds has so far hindered the project.
