At the moment I am busy chasing the Cockatoos away from my bird feeder which is intended for the Lorileets  We are in winter so it is cold nothing much is growing , wish we had the rain. Sadly we have water restrictions because of the drought. The rain that swept through South Australia of Victoria will not make it to New South Wales or Queensland.. So there ... You have a reply..My Blue Gum Trees (The Widow Makers) coming Down..
coming down[size=78%]

G'day Tom, welcome to the forum.

Your routine with the Cockatoos is the same here at the Kelly Homestead; my wife puts seed out for the smaller birds but along come the Cockatoos and take over.

What my wife tries to do is buy smaller seed that the larger birds can't handle.

We do not want to encourage Cockatoos as they are such destructive birds and they will eat our wooden window frames and decking at the first opportunity.

On the subject of gum trees, I guess you are familiar with the advice of not camping under gum trees.

When I saw the name Tom Collins I was immediately reminded of Colonel Tim Collins Eve of Battle Speech to the Royal Irish Regiment in Iraq 2003,

TOM THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL AND I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THOSE IN MY GARDEN.  I EVEN LOVE WATCHING THE SPARROWS HA. SOMETIME I EVEN SAW  CARDINALS AND BLUE JAYS, BUT THAT WAS IN MY HOUSE, I'M NOW IN A SENIOR'S BUILDING, 5TH FLOOR SO I ONLY HAVE A BALCONY AND EVEN THEN I DON'T HAVE THE MOBILITY TO SET OUT A FEEDING  TRAY.  ON THE LEFT OF YOUR PHOTO , IS THAT  GARDEN ART, THEY LOOK VERY INTERESTING.   DO YOU CUT ALL THAT GRASS? DOWN IN SUMMER SO YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING, SORRY FOR ALL THE QUESTIONS.    HAVE A GOOD DAY OR NIGHT HA.  LIZ  XXX

HI JOHN,  I WOULD WELCOME YOU TO THE BF AS WELL.  ARE YOU FROM AUSTRALIA AS WELL.  I'VE WATCHED SHOWS ON THE COCKATOOS AND  I NEVER HEARD OF THEM BEING DESTRUCTIVE , YOU LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERY DAY.   I GUESS YOUR COCKATOOS ARE LIKE THE SQUIRRELS OVER HERE FOR GETTING INTO THE BIRD'S SEED.   PEOPLE WHO PUT OUT FOR THE BIRDS TRY EVERYTHING  SO THE SQUIRRELS  CAN'T GET AT THEM BUT THEY SEEM TO BE EXPERTS AT IT.
