I remember Jimmy Compton full stop. What a character. At one time he lived in the Braniel estate. I dropped him off at his house one day and was invited in for a drink. Another jazz musician, Billy McAlpine, he played the double bass with one of the bands that played in The Stables at the Glenmachan Towers Hotel in the sixxties and early seventies, lived in the Braniel too.

Did anyone go to the Saturday night dances at the Tech, a jazz band played there, I think they were called the White Eagles, this would be late 50's.

Does anyone know the line up pf the White Eagles please? Who played at Sammy Houstons? Was that the White Eagles or the Embankment Six? Did anyone one these boards go to Methody. My Methody and Jazz advisor is my cousin Keith now living in Dublin.

Hiya Alexander, do you remember the lineup of the Jimmy Compton Jazz Band? How many guys were in the band apart from Jimmy playing trombone? He had a Jazz Club in a building on the Lisburn Road. Did you ever go there?

This is a link to the Panama Jazz Band. Does anyone recognize these guys.  http://www.thejohnhewitt.com/gallery/largimages/panama.jpg

Hiya Mageeka, thanks for those band line ups. I think there used to be a drummer called Tony Martin but cannot recall the band with which he played. You'll be sad to hear that Comptons Jazz Club (formerly Miss Foster's School of Dancing) at the corner of Windsor Avenue / Lisburn Road has been knocked down to make way for an apartment block.

Sheelagh's surname was Glover so Dave must have at least one brother. I think she lived around King's Road / Gilnahirk. Dave lived at Graymount Drive in 1960. I wonder if that house will qualify for a Blue Plaque sometime
in the future. Maybe dance band leaders' houses do not qualify. Painters, poets and writers houses get them.
