The last hanging
« on: March 04, 2012, 01:50:57 PM »
I remember walking down the Crumlin Road with my sister and her boy friend when we approached the Crumlin Road Prison.
There was a crowd outside who were very quiet and my sister read a notice on the gate that said an hanging had taken place.
If i remember right it was around Christmas time. Does any one know who it was and what for

Could we start to imagine the personality that the hang man had ? how did sleep at night or go about his daily life knowing what his job was.

The real Al Capone one said that “Money can change anyone’s personality”.  I believe that it can also change anyone’s conscience.

He was a total professional, you could not have some wimp 'half hanging' some poor murderer, he done them all a big favour and it's a pity that there is not someone doing it nowdays ;)

I went on a tour of Belfast jail once a few years ago. The person to be hung never left  their cell to be hung. The wooden sideboard on the wall slid over to lead to the hanging cell.
