Shankill tartan and the Ulster boot boys
« on: March 19, 2012, 12:27:38 AM »
It all came back to me like a bad dream do any of you remember the Shankill tartan and ulster Boot boy gangs in the seventies and the Millies who  were dress in electric blue parallels with tartan round the bottom.
feathered hair cuts puffed sleeve tank tops.
and we dare ask our children what they were wearing.
Would love to see some pics of how we looked back then

Hit him on the head and he falls down dead

the woodstock tartan seemed to be the most notoritous but there seemed to be tartan gangs everywhere. got chased many a time by members of them.

I was a member of the Ulster Boot Boys, we wore a brown Ulster tartan scarf, membership was drawn from the Highfield, Springmartin , Woodvale areas, Scoop, twister, Aikey, Jamsie Montgomery, Mearnsy were some of the others, Woodstock tartan was white and Shankill Tartan was red Royal Stewart, the millies wore monkey boots and harrington bomber jackets with no tartan.

I was a member of the Ulster Boot Boys,

Then there was The Bulmer Boot Boys.  I think they might have been from York Street/York Road.

Looks like Teddy Coates who I think lived in lower Bellevue Street.?
I wanted to build a fortress, a bastion of invincibility.
