Hey Guys and Gals,
Really great to hear about all of your memories regarding Edward Street and the surrounding area.
I am a 3rd year archaeology student at Queen's and am currently undertaking my dissertation. I'm looking at the archaeology of the neighbourhood uncovered during the commercial excavation which took place ahead of the St. Anne's development.
Although the archaeologists paid a lot more attention to the evidence for the tanning industry which preceeded the development of housing in the area, what I've been looking at is the material from the neighbourhood in the 19th and 20th C.'s. I've been trying to get an idea of what it was like to live in the area and link the story of how the neighbourhood changed with some of the archaeology. One big question I was wondering about was how much opposition there was from residents to the demolition of housing in the 1970's with the Dunbar Link, and to the demolition of Edward Street in the 1990's.
Any help'd be much appreciated,
