How anyone can compare Willie Johnstone, who played in a league comparable with the English second division with George Best, who played for Manchester Utd in the English First Division (now the Premiership) beggars belief.

George Best had his faults but Willie Johnstone wasn't fit to clean Best's boots.  :)
Johnk
Bit of a misunderstanding going on here  :(
All the talk about Willie J was all tongue in cheek. If you check futher up in the thread you'll see my opinion of Best.
I know that nothing much is achieved comparing players from different eras but I can't resist saying that IMO Best was a more complete player than the present day Messi. He was very brave, could tackle, better ball control and his balance on the ball was like that of a ballet dancer.
Best every week had to face the likes of Norman Hunter,Chopper Harris,Tommy Smith and Billy Bonds.Players who in those days who could inflict serious harm with in the rules of the game. Geordie never shirked a tackle and in a lot of cases humiliated the so called hard men when he was in a 1V1 situation with them.(I saw him do it at Windsor Park on more than one occasion).
Best was the complete footballer and the mind boggles at what he would be able to do in  modern football now that the physical side of the game is almost gone.
He said himself "Remember me for the football".
