Nigel,
I hope I am not sending a duplicate message to you as I sent a Yahoo message also.  Thank you kindly for making The Great War Belfast Newspaper Clippings Collection available.
I am interest in the following individual's picture that I did see listed on the photographs list.  I have been searching for more information on his war service record since last Spring and perhaps it is here where I can discover more.  I downloaded a medal record,at the National Archives only to read at the top that there was uncertainty if it was the same fellow. There is no doubt that this is him,as his family lived on Colvile.  I am excited can you tell?
Kind regards, Mary Frances in USA

Nigel,
Did you see me doing the "Happy Dance"?  Thank you so very much for sending the picture so very promptly. It brought tears to my eyes,
and then I had to run and fetch hubby to see Kenneth Paterson!  How fine he looks.

Thank you again,
Mary Frances

Hi Nigel, What a fantastic source you have provided! All of us amateur geneologists are in your debt. My grandparents each lost an uncle in WW1 and i have been trying to gather as much information on them as i can. I dont see them listed on your site but if you had a way to check if there are any available images of them i would be very grateful. Their details are (i) William Shearer DCM 6055, 2nd Bn, RIR died 25/9/15 and (ii) Edward Lewis 7244 B Company 11 RIR.

Atlas

There is a picture in my library of a Sgt William Shearer (29 Seventh Street, Belfast) who won the DCM - is this your man?

Your best bet would be to join the Great War Forum and start a topic for each man - there are a lot of Belfast/NI guy on GWF who are very helpful.

If you are on Ancestry, you should be able to identify/download the relevant pages from the illustrated Ireland' Memorial Record.  If you are not a member of Ancestry, let me know and I will do a bit of checking.

Delane

Sorry, no Joseph Dawson in my newspaper clippings library.

The only "DAWSON" listed on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website with a death date 06/02/1918 is Service No 21051 but it indicates that the surname is an alias and that the family name was "DARCY"

The record for Private (21051) Joseph Darcy, 2nd battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers indicates that he was the son of Eliza Darcy of 3 Park Street Belfast - this man is buried in BROOKWOOD MILITARY CEMETERY in Surrey

You can print a memorial certificate here:

I would recommend joining the Great War Forum and starting a topic in the Soldiers section - there are local Belfast/NI guys on there with a lot of knowledge and there are people that specialise in particular regiments/battalions.

Provide as much information as you have, including the service number and both surnames.
