Mckillens - Whitewell/Carnmoney
« on: March 29, 2014, 01:18:24 PM »
Hi everyone,
I've just joined the forum as I'm researching a section of my Clan (The 'McKillens') who have popped up on the Irish 1911 Census.
My Great Grandfather was Patrick (Paddy) McKillen son of Daniel and Hannah.  I'm doing a lot of research on the clan and I see they had a lot of children -  12 (I Believe) Daniel, Neal, Archie, Patrick, Rosetta, John, Denis, Catherine, Elizabeth, James.   I'm not sure of the rest.  All showing up as resident in the Whitewell Area and/or Carnmoney.
I'm wondering if anyone out there would have additional information on anybody I've mentioned in particular Neal/Neil McKillen as it's coming up to the centenary of his death when he served in the 4th or 6th Royal Irish Fusiliers and fought at Gallipoli and died aboard a ship on route to Malta on 22nd September 1915 and is buried there.
  Much appreciated.
Col

I agree Mark - how they coped I do not know. :o

Cheers Sam - I managed to get that info that you posted previously - much appreciated.  I must take a wee journey up that neck of the woods of Ballymoney some time (don't think I've ever been there in my life).

I know that Daniel and Hannah then moved to Glasgow in the early 1880's - Daniel (Dan), Neal, Archibald (Archie) were born in Glasgow then the family moved back to Ireland maybe late 1880's and were busy with the rest of their new additions to the clan. :D

Wow - this is fantastic

Maura - that's correct, according to the Census they had 14 kids but only 12 were alive as of 1911.  That's really interesting about the baptisms - I'm not sure if the names and dates are an exact match to the family so I will dig a little deeper (Ireally must get up to Dunloy) - Thanks very much

Cheers Sam - must investigate that also

Cheers 17124, much appreciated - Yeah got that also - will add an entry of him on LennonWylie WW1 Database

looks like sam may have the correct marriage record.  Take a look at the Griffiths Valuation records for Finvoy ... several McKillens including Neal.  Archibald Boorman also listed in Rasharkin

Got the marriage index from ancestry.co.uk and match his wife on ancestryireland.com

Theres a tree on ancestry with this family, they have Rosetta born 1889, so the Teresa I posted maybe  transcribed wrong
