William and Emily Milliken
« on: April 24, 2015, 01:53:51 AM »
Does anyone know where I can find a photograph of Mr. William Milliken and his wife Emily Leonora Delacherois ?  They were both born around 1860 and came from wealthy families with servants.  William Milliken was born in England and moved to Belfast where he became a successful stockbroker and member of the treasury for Northern Ireland railways in the late 19th century, and even gave presents to the engine drivers and station porters each Christmas (according to newspaper clippings).  Emily was a local girl living most of her life in Donaghadee.  They both lived at Warren House in Donaghadee/Ballywilliam until their deaths.  William died on 17 November 1940.  Emily died on 9 December 1945.  Their home is about to be demolished, and before their presence is erased from that site, I have tried to search without success to find their graves, or at least a photograph of them.  Can anyone help please?

I would be interested to know if there is still a picture on Warren House, Donaghadee, when it was still being used as a family home. Like yourself, I am currently looking for a picture of William Milliken and his wife. I have search his family back to Michael Millikin of Richmond Green, London. This family came originally from Wigtownshire in Scotland.

Regards

those dates allow newspaper coverage of funeral arrangements, even possible photographs or portraits might have been used. institutions could also have past members portraits eg the Belfast Stock exchange, art collections Ulster Museum, Donaghadee History Group
eg
Audio Clip 5: Angelique Day - the De Lacherois family

the 1901 census shows William Milliken m 1896 Emily Leonara Milliken as living at

the census 1901 are useful 1911 are useful, the nos are not street numbers but often the valuation numbers, look under 12 and 21Ballywilliam (Donaghadee Rural, Down)

My grandmother was William Milliken's niece and was very close to William and Emily. She lived with Emily at Warren House until she passed away in September 1945, just months before Emily passed away. If anyone has a photo of Warren House when it was lived in by William and Emily, I would love to see it.  Someone had asked where they were buried - they are buried in Knockbreda Cemetery in Belfast.
