Mickybo, if you look closely you can see bullet holes on the corner of the wall on the left hand side of the photo (made by a heavy calibre bullet by the look of it!), just above the heads of the kids! The 'Peace' wall was put up by the Army to reduce the potential for mob incursions into the streets of the Short Strand, hence the reason they left an opening just wide enough for one person at a time to pass through! (As seen on the right hand side of the barricade)
not much going on in that pic but it tells a thousand stories, was just thinking my dad wud have been around 13 at that time the  same age as some in the pic, but he never spoke about those days, its ironic that he nearly lost his life in a bomb in the early 70's at the other end of the strand!

I would say the photo of the Strand is 1974.

I would say you are near enough might be 75 doesn't look the army are stationed in the bus depot. they were there in 1974.The strand bar was bombed 12 April 1975 so it must have been somewhere between those dates. at that time my dad was the gate man in the depot.

Yes I would often refer to the black white days, when I'm talking to the kids, I liked the old black & white photos B burger posted  they're very nostalgic when I'm out and about  with my camera I would take black and white photo's, I don't know what it is, maybe everything back then was black & white what do you think.
