just to get back to the short strand. anyone remember the short strand the way it used to be ? b4 it was rebuilt. spend many aday playing around it as some of my m8 from school came from down there. streets i remember was thompson st, anderson st, clyde st, beechfield st, woodstock st. alot of folk from there moved to downpatrick and over to twinbrook around the years between 1972 and 1974. plenty went to craigavon as well.
my friend deirdre  lived there , i used to come down from orangefield to visit her. it was sllightly dodgy in them times 1970's , but i didnt care they were very kind people

Does anyone remember Minty's Shop in Vulcan Street?

The owner taught myself and all my siblings to read the time using the cardboard that came between the cans of peas.  They left round circular dents and he used them as clock faces to teach us on Saturdays.

I went to St Matthews school from 1958 to 1962. I remember a sweetie shop (might have been Mintys in Vulcan St), he sold sherbid in cones made out of newspaper.  Although I didn't live in the Short Strand area my friends from school were Phyllis McGratton( they had a Green Grocer stall in the Market) and Eleanor Hunter (her father was the Doctor in Bryson St) Ann Marie Carroll and Joan Campbell.

Anyone else attended during these years?
