There was a Joseph born in 1913:

This (below) is the birth registration for Frederick John in 1911, mother's maiden name wrongly recorded as McMullan, he was baptised in St., Matthew's on 26 March and the address in the baptismal record matches the civil registration:

There was also a Mildred Philomena Rice baptised in St. Matthew's, Belfast, on 30 September 1923 for parents Frederick John Rice and Esther McAlonan, the given date of birth was 28 September 1923, the address was 49 Sheriff Street, the sponsor was Margaret Rice.

Thank you Colin, you never fail to surprise me. I'm still no further on with James McLaughlin and Unity Gibson though. Still trying to find an address for James from Unity's will.

Possibility here, McGowan, but father called Steele:

Further to the above marriage, I can see a marriage of an Elizabeth Steel of Ballymacormick Dromore to Patrick McGowan of Ballybrick Drumballyroney on 3 July 1875 in Banbridge district, the groom's father was also called Patrick McGowan, the bride's was called William Steel. Also a death of a 35 year old Patrick Magowan in Lisburn district in 1878.  Just possibilities.

The Rice that died on that date in Belfast was the son of Geo Rice, so doesn't fit...

Hi Ailach41,
My Mother was Margaret Rice from Lancaster St but the names you mentioned aren't in her family.  I'm just wondering why you think they are connected.
Thanks

Hi Northwick,
I had been told that a Rice member was a shoemaker from Lancaster St.  I have a Margaret Rice in a family from Hillman Street, so any person with the name Rice from that location would be a person of interest until I could confirm or eliminate them from the family I am researching. Now I know your mother is not related. Thank You.

That's interesting as my Grandfather Patrick Rice, Lancaster St was a shoemaker, he died  around 1924, do you think you may be connected?  He was married previously to Rose Rice who died, they had 4 children.  He later married my Grandmother in 1914
Regards
Margaret

I should have added that I do not have a Patrick Rice in my tree. I have had a look at my data base and I do have a copy of your grandfathers marriage certificate to Margaret Tynan in St Joseph's Church. If you would like to give me more information on your grandfather I will see what I can find.

Hi,
I've seen Patrick's marriage recorded in a parish register online, it states they were married in 1916 but I always thought it was earlier, do you have it as 1916 on the marriage cert?  If you could tell me what their parents names and occupations were on it I would be very grateful. They were both married before so strange than she is using her single name, Tynan, on the register that I saw.  Anything you could tell me about them would be great thanks.  If i can help you in any way let me know as some of  the familes living in Lancaster St were there for generations and i would have known a good few of them  before the old street was pulled down.
All the best
Margaret
