Hain has done nothing here other than join the ever swelling ranks of those who like to inflate their already puffed up egos by listing the complexities of an extremely delicate and potentially, 'explosive'  problem.
Like all negative egomaniacal narcissists he has not accompanied his perception of the issue with his well thought out proposals to overcome the apparent present inertia.
His pointless outburst remains no more than meaningless political grandstanding as we all know the problems, it's solutions we're seeking.
My opinion is that the success of the Brexit vote was a surprise to all, even the Brexiteers,  but there are those 'real' people who have dedicated their lives to confronting the mammoth problems that the vote produced so the blustering braggarts such as Hain can get a free ride and sit in their Ivory Towers spewing out their meaningless arrogant drivel.
What we need now are positive proposals to help resolve the existing catalogue of problems which a short sighted dimwit on a galloping horse could see from a mile off.
The fact that Hain's arrogance and insolent dismissal of the physical and emotional suffering of 1000s of our kith and kin has little if anything to do with the problems which the Brexit vote created does not in any way detract from the accuracy of the apt description.

Very good post. Summed up Hain perfectly. He's always banging on about Democracy but can't get his head around the Brexit vote like a few others on the BF.  :)

"Northern Ireland could stay in customs union after Brexit – Verhofstadt"

"European parliament negotiator says Irish border solution is needed before talks can progress, as unionists oppose special status"

Quote...

Northern Ireland could continue to be in the single market or customs union after the UK leaves the EU, the European parliament’s Brexit negotiator has said.

But Guy Verhofstadt’s proposal for special status for the region was met with immediate opposition from unionists who said they would never accept any deal that made Northern Ireland different from the rest of the UK.

On a two-day visit to Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic, Verhofstadt stressed it was up to the UK to come up with a solution in order to prevent a tariff- and customs-based militarised “hard border” on the island.

" Brexit: Theresa May restates 'no Irish border posts' policy "

"The Prime Minister has restated there will be no physical infrastructure at the Irish border after Brexit."

Theresa May was delivering a speech in Italy in a bid to break the deadlock in Brexit negotiations, which are due to resume on Monday.

Mrs May said that both the UK and EU have "stated explicitly" that they will not accept any physical infrastructure at the border.

That is despite the UK leaving both the customs union and the single market.

The EU can see the potentially disastrous consequences for the ROI and want to 'soft pedal' on this one.  ;)      :D

More or less potentially damaging to the ROI than to Northern Ireland's future is a debatable point, but the ROI certainly isn't denying that post breaksit border arrangements have the potential to be harmful to the ROI,... they're saying the exact opposite,... and with as much reason to be concerned as Northern Ireland also has.

Perhaps and in their own interests it's time that the U.K. Government adopted an equally realistic position on the issue of post breaksit Irish border arrangements,... and of the issue that the E.U. will not make a breaksit deal with them until they do.

"Latest: No UK clarity on Brexit responsibilities for Ireland, says Michel Barnier"

"Theresa May has not clarified how the UK will honour its "special responsibility" for the consequences of Brexit for Ireland, EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier said."

"Mr Barnier said: "Today's speech does not clarify how the UK intends to honour its special responsibility for the consequences of its withdrawal for Ireland.

"Our objective is to preserve the Good Friday Agreement in all its dimensions, as well as the integrity of the Single Market and the Customs Union."

Hain is nothing more than a `snake oil salesman`. He and Blair came from the same mold. He even detests the Labour party now.

As someone involved in the Haulage Industry, I cannot for the life of me see how, post Brexit, there wont be a hard border. Its just doesn't make sense not to have one, regarding the importation and exporting of goods. There has to be arrangements as there is, currently, for goods coming in from outside the EU. A C88 has to filled in and this will still be the case Post Brexit, only this will apply to goods from the EU, as well. There has to be Customs checks. No other way to do it. Number plate recognition. ...forget it.
