Very true Fishy, and let's hope that when Ireland is United ( not if but when ) that principle carries through  ::)

Based on the attitude to Brexit, I very much doubt that.  :)

"Sajid Javid: Government should pay 'hundreds of millions' for Irish border solution"

"Tory leadership hopeful Sajid Javid has said the Government should pay "hundreds of millions of euros" to solve the Irish border issue and break the Brexit deadlock."

"The Home Secretary told the Mail On Sunday he believes a technological solution to the problem can be found and Britain has a "moral and economic duty" to cover the cost."

"Preventing a hard border on the island of Ireland has long been a major stumbling block in the Brexit negotiations, with the EU proposing the controversial backstop to avoid such a scenario."

"The backstop is an insurance mechanism in the Withdrawal Agreement that would keep the UK in the EU customs union and Northern Ireland in large parts of the single market."

"It would come in to force in the event that the UK and the EU fail to agree a post-Brexit trading relationship or if a technological solution cannot be found to keep the border frictionless."

Boris is proposing reducing tax for those earning above £50 thousand per year if he is elected as PM by the Tories.
To help pay for the tax cuts for the wealthier he says he will increase national insurance contributions for the lower paid.
It is highly unlikely his clueless proposal would get through the present parliament; like Trump's wall it is a lot of nonsense designed solely to get selected.
i suspect few contributing to the Forum earn over £50 grand a year.

"UK official in charge of Brexit border plans resigns"

"Karen Wheeler’s resignation stokes fears the UK will not be ready for a no-deal Brexit by October"

Quote,...

The government official in charge of delivering “frictionless” Brexit border arrangements, including emergency plans for Dover and Ireland in the event of no deal, has quit just two years into her job.

Karen Wheeler, director general of Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs Brexit border delivery group, was the lead official coordinating a cross-Whitehall response involving police, ports, customs and freight interests.

Her departure is being seen as a blow to the government and increasing the risk that the UK will not be as prepared for a possible no deal on 31 October.

Nothing is happening in Whitehall now. Lots of people have been stood down on Brexit no-deal preparations and there is a general risk that people are just going to see this hiatus as an opportunity to clear off and go into the private sector,” said a source who knows Wheeler.      etcetera,...

Unionism can keep its head in the sand.
This is the reality....
Brexit or demographics... Tick tock.
Better to get a deal in Stormont and a shared future.

"Grassroots Tories would sacrifice the Union if it meant Brexit being delivered, new poll reveals"

"Tory members are willing to destroy their own party, sacrifice the Union and allow Scottish independence and a united Ireland if it means leaving the European Union, according to a new poll."

"A new poll suggest 63% of Tory members would be happy to see Scottish independence if it meant the rest of the UK left the EU"

Quote,...

A survey by YouGov suggests a majority of them would prefer Brexit took place to a host of scenarios, including 61% in favour of it even if it caused “significant damage to the economy”.

It suggests leaving the EU is by far the most important issue to the grassroots, even if it would see the party, officially called the Conservative and Unionist Party, abandon its unionist credentials.

Almost two-thirds of the members would be willing to allow Scotland to leave the United Kingdom, and 59% would rather Northern Ireland left than Brexit not taking place at all.

And 54% would rather see the Tories “destroyed” than stay in the European Union, with four in 10 even saying they would be happy to see Jeremy Corbyn inside Number 10 if it meant leaving.

The poll also reveals why many of the rank-and-file are so committed to seeing Brexit delivered, with 44% responding that leaving without a deal will help them win the next election, with 14% saying it will keep them in power well into the future too.

On the other hand, 51% say if Brexit does not take place then it will “damage the Conservative Party to the extent that it will never lead a government again”.

BREXIT PARTY A 'BIG THREAT'

The membership also see the Brexit Party as a much bigger threat to their electability than Labour, with 67% saying Nigel Farage’s outfit are a “big threat”, to just 34% for Mr Corbyn’s.

And almost half say they would be happy if rather than the six candidates left in the race to be their new leader Mr Farage was chosen to replace Theresa May.

But Mr Farage has ruled out an electoral pact with the Tories, telling the Daily Express: "I've been approached by a couple of people. But why would I trust anybody in the Conservative Party. ?”

With the leadership contest moving to the members at the end of this week once Conservative MPs have whittled the contenders down to the final two, they were also polled on how important other policies are to getting their vote.

Just 15% said they would back someone if they had a “good plan for domestic policies” and a “bad plan for Brexit”, and 68% said that they were most interested in hearing the candidates' EU plans over anything else.

Most members also do not care if the candidates voted for Remain in 2016, with 68% saying it would be acceptable to have them as leader as long as they are willing to leave without a deal on October 31.
