Astor I never warmed to Joe Dolan and true that he had a great voice.  Teresa it must be great to have younger friends????
The showband scene was a great time to meet people and socialise but sometimes the dances were too full.    :) :)

I was a fan of Joe many years ago when I saw him in London, it was great to hear a couple of his oldies on Saturday night :)

I've a big circle of friends of all ages, only way to keep young (ish)  ;)

Yep I'm still in London and here to stay it seems as I have 4 granddaughters now, aged 12,10, 5 and 16 months, The eldest three are  an hour and and a half 's drive from me and the youngest one 20 minutes away.

I can't stand Mrs Brown boys. No showbands to my knowledge still play in London.

Great , I know that we have had this conversation before but the Astor was great place to dance and meet people of a like mind. As you remind us by your name.  It wasn't too good if a big band arrived.  Dave Glover was popular and I saw the Cadets, but not sure , there.  Dave Glover had a great knack for picking good musicians and singers.  When his band left him, most did, and formed "The Witnesses" they became probably the best showband in the North of Ireland barring the Freshmen from Ballymena and probably the most complete outside of the Royal showband.  Joe Morelli was a wonderful singer.  I met them at Tramore , just outside Waterford one night and went back to their hotel after the dance.  They had a roadie who was Freddie Teit the Irish boxer, who kept us entertained with some magic tricks.  That was a great night.  At the time I was working in Wexford . Dave Glover credited himself with discovering Muriel Day who had a great voice and represented Ireland in the Eurovision song contest. ;)

Another source with a lot of bands and groups information and pictures.

http://www.ardsbangor.com/Index_Band_Information.htm

and dance halls and venues, and an interesting personal story about Glenn Miller in Belfast in WW2http://www.ardsbangor.com/Index_Dancehalls.htm

This is a 1998 RTE documentary "The Story of Irish Showbands" https://tinyurl.com/yc34dflb   Astor's probably in it. !
