 Yes – Me!!
My g-grandfather, James BILL, claimed to have been born in 1848 in Shankhill, Belfast and was a Presbyterian.
I posted on this forum some years ago (search under ‘greyplover’) about finding a possible record of him in Glasgow in the 1861 census. Unfortunately further research has revealed that this James BILL married and remained in Scotland, subsequent records having transcribed him as Bell which made him (and family) difficult to find.
On a visit to PRONI in 2004 I found a baptism in St Anne’s, Belfast but there was doubt whether it was BILL or BELL.
I am planning another research visit to Belfast in June this year and hope that with 14 years more experience I can find something relevant.
You can find the story of this research and other information on my web site:
dennisbillfamilyhistory.uk
I do hope we might be able to be of mutual help.
Best wishes
Dennis BILL

Thank you Dennis.
May I ask if you have had your DNA tested please?

My Bill family seemed to go to and fro to Scotland. I have it they were all born in Belfast though.
If I have the right family, there was Hugh, William and Thomas and some sisters.
Thomas I think is my grandfather. He emigrated to Canada after marrying Isabella Gray.
She joined him later and they had two sons.
I was a war baby and my English Mother went out with one of the sons. (WAAF and Canadian Air force.)
Both dead now as is my half brother who I spoke to once.

Anyway, enough waffling and if any of this helps, please get in touch. Thanks again.

Anne.

Yes I have done an autosomal DNA test with Ancestry. I have also loaded it into Gedmatch (recommended).

Ha ha. Not good at adblocking.
Luckily I haven't had trouble. Fingers crossed.

I will do the Gedmatch thing. I did try it once but didn't understand it at all.
Ladies of a certain age take a while to suss things out.  :(

On Ancestry, my user name is cooper_anne12.
Thanks again Dennis.

Thank you Jean.
I don't know if she is related or not. I was told the other day it is a common name.

If she is related and she ever told you, did she ever mention relatives emigrating to Canada?
Mind you, that would be long before your time.
Thank you anyway.
Anne.

Ok Jean.
Names don't sound familiar but might be a generation or two nearer our time.
Thank you once again,
Anne,
