That's what happens Bigali. You start talking food and you've gotta have some.

pastie

This is what a pastie looks like. The taste, however, is beyond description!

toady this pastie doesn't  look appetizing          looks like a mass of grease      .    I  wonder how many

times the oil has been cooked       gets a thumbs down from me        :)

It was the lard that they used back in the day, that gave fish, chips and pasties, their unique flavour.  ;)

They've even been referred to in song, in the last verse of this track of Van's.

"A Sense of Wonder"

Wee Alfie at the Castle Picture House on the Castlereagh Road.
Whistling on the corner next door where he kept Johnny Mack Brown's horse.
O Solo Mio by McGimsey
and the man who played the saw outside the city hall

Upon seeing toadstool999`s photograph of the pastie and chips and all the other posts-I have had to take drastic
measures to satisfy the desire for a pastie!
At the risk of being `shot down` by other posters-asked a friend to bring me a packet of TSB Foods Pasties!
Well-any port in a storm as the saying goes.
Have to say they were `not half bad`!!

pastie

This is what a pastie looks like. The taste, however, is beyond description!

That's what I need and I need it now ! I'm salivating.

Ulster Pasty ( in a blues style)

It's been too long
Ulster Pasty
It's been too long
It's been too long
Pasty boo

Walkin in to the shop
In the cold wet rain
Man I was shiverin....oh yeah
I was shiverin
Hungry and cold

I was shiverin
Before the gold
O the pasty n chips
I was was shiverin
I was shiverin

Then lo behold!
There she came
My pasty of gold
There she came

I sunk my cold lips hard and low
Around you babe, around you baby
The vinegar made by buds explode
Thank ya Lord, I thank ya Lord

I was walking home alone
Through the pouring rain ( one more time ago)
Bit by bit, my pocket I explored
My ulster pasty

My pasty, my pasty, my sweet sausage, onion and breadcrumb....ULSTER PASTY !

Well, in general, and wonderful things as I remember them to have been, and up to a point of frequency of consumption, gotta go along with Dot/dash on this one.

BTW, anybody ever tried making them for themselves. ?

Every body loves a good pastie supper. For me the best were from "The Glen" at the top of the Oldpark Road aka "Greasy Fred's". Don't know why it got that name because his stuff was great. Need to be careful what I say here though, cos I know that Fred's daughter Robina posts on here.
dear creaky, dear dear creaky,  can you please find me a receipe for those pasties?  when we came back in 2013 we headed for the first thing i was hanging out for:  a pasty supper,  got it in bangor,....great,   i have never forgotten standing in the street in bangor on a cold winters night when i was about twenty years old and stuffing one of those into my gob,    who needs heaven?       cheers      roy   c.

You could try this one Roy. I don't know how it would work. Not sure about the coriander and nutmeg. If you give it a go and it's ok, let me know.

Cheers. G.
