USNS Dutton- US Spy sahip homeported in Belfast
« on: June 16, 2018, 07:39:35 PM »
I was in Belfast in the mid 1960s.  On a spy ship.  USNS Dutton T-AGS-21.  Was at all of the dance places and ended up marrying a Belfast girl.  She hated America and the marriage dissolved after 20 years.   She was Catholic and I was not.  It was a marriage made in hell!

Some mixed marriages work out, i.e. a guy and a gal.   lol.  I married a Canadian off H.M.C.S. Bonaventure in 1956 and I moved to Canada. We were married for 61 wonderful years before he passed away.  Sixty-one years was not enough!   Sorry that your marriage could not have been different.

Coming to a foreign country for a limited time -especially as you did-USA Military.
If I had been you-I`d have enjoyed all the great dances-etcetera-but not got involved with any
natives to the extent of marrying them!
Better to have gone back home, perhaps written to each other for a while-perhaps save up and
pay for her to visit you in the US.
However,I would take the view if you had just gone back home-she would have faded and you would
have saved yourself 20 years wasted.
But sure -when we are young we just have not got the sense we were born with!

such a shame it didn't work out           i guess mixed marriages can be a huge gamble            I married a French Jew

old enough  to be my dad          Israel / Palestine became our bone of contention            thankfully our

differences didn't have any impact upon our children          I wish you every happiness          :)

Yes, love, no matter who's marriage it is. :-*
Love like you've never been hurt,
Dance like no one's watching,
Sing like no one can hear you.
