Hi OW. I also used to go in the Bellvue arms and the Glen inn in the sixties and early seventies before I left for Canada. Used to meet my mates in the glen before heading to the Carera ball room on a Saturday in Ballyclare. We used to go to the Glen some nights to watch a band that played upstairs, I went to a football game one Saturday at seaview and low and behold, there was the band members selling hotdogs in the stands. Can’t remember there names.

Hi Tommo

Noel Brown and the Spenders were the resident band then, Jimmy the lead guitarist lived local so he may have sold the burgers at Seaview.
I still see him around after all these years. A great guy. Regards OW

That’s correct, now I remember the name. I remember Noel giving a guy a bad time one night for sitting and reading a paper while he was singing . I remember the bar down stairs on a Saturday afternoon was a pain to have a quite pint ,empty one minute, pact the next when a horse race was on, then empty again when everyone went back to the bookies next door.

What was the name of the bar in the 1980s heading out from the centre of Glengormley on the Antrim Road towards Sandyknowes roundabout?

This bar would have been on the left hand side, I remember it had a large glass case against the wall inside, containing sporting paraphernalia (eg. someone's boxing gloves, photographs, that sort of thing). Any ideas on its name and exactly where it stood and its previous names or what it was before?

CMcG, not very exciting, I know, but I think it was called The Village Inn.

Paul.

Thanks City Hall, do you remember the approximate location, would it have been in the vicinity of where the KFC is today?

Ah brilliant, so I was slightly too far out with KFC, the site of the Village Inn was actually the block of buildings running from the Indian Ocean Restaurant and BUPA Dental Care Surgery to the iPhoneBits shop, they all share the same address as the one stated on the leaflet for the Village Inn (350 Antrim Road), whereas the Winemark next to the iPhoneBits shop is no. 352 Antrim Road:

https://www.google.com/maps/place/350+Antrim+Rd,+Glengormley,+Newtownabbey+BT36+5EQ/@54.6727918,-5.9609527,3a,75y,228.46h,101.22t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sty1B7yQq05-Ry4PduiPwxw!2e0!7i16384!8i8192!4m5!3m4!1s0x4861a7b77140dcc1:0xb355d8cec0060252!8m2!3d54.6726!4d-5.9611938

And a google satellite view of what's there today matches the little map on the leaflet, showing the site backing onto Harmin Parade.

Thank you for this.

The property still has a liquor licence, it's now called Fluid-Laurie's.
