"15 AUG 2018"
https://www.belfastlive.co.uk/news/belfast-news/belfast-heroin-addicts-supplied-via-15030651

"Belfast heroin addicts supplied via drug mules on buses and trains"

"It's killing people. We know there has been three deaths in the last week" - Cllr Paul McCusker"

"The heroin feeding Belfast addicts is being delivered almost hourly by mules on buses and trains, according to a city councillor."

"Belfast SDLP representative Paul McCusker said the problem is at epidemic levels with the number of heroin addicts rising dramatically in recent years."

"Police said they are aware most of Northern Ireland's drugs come from the Republic and mainland UK."

"And that tackling supply routes is a priority, but the vast majority of police seizures result in cannabis being taken off our streets."

"Mr McCusker said:"

"Every couple of hours there is heroin coming into the city and that's reflected in council staff, who are all of a sudden finding a massive increase in the number of needles."

"Police need to be very clear on how they are going to address it, they have a massive responsibility."

"29 JUL 2018"
https://www.belfastlive.co.uk/news/belfast-news/fears-eight-drug-overdoses-belfast-14966346

"Fears of eight drug overdoses in Belfast homeless community in one night"

"It has been described as an 'epidemic' "

"Homeless workers have expressed fears that there were as many as eight drug overdoses on one night in Belfast."

"The series of suspected overdoses happened last Thursday."

"There have been calls for a quicker response to drug-related incidents in order to prevent ‘further deaths’."

"The issue has been described as a ‘city-wide’ epidemic and a clear problem among the homeless here."

"SDLP Councillor and Homeless Worker Paul McCusker described the problem as ‘serious’."

"He told Belfast Live:"

"Every day I receive calls from those who are using drugs crying out for help as quite often once referred to a service they could wait more than six weeks and if you are using heroin and want help it could take seven months which is outrageous."

My note,... of course they are societies outcasts, so they aren't regarded by the public and the local government level and Westminster M.P.s as being a national priority,... but I wonder what public and political reaction would be to such figures if they were being caused by paramilitary action. ?!

Good question. As i said social media is always posting about known heroin dealing hot spots and areas were heroin is used. Unfortunately heroin which is part of the opioid family is not the priority at the minute. Cannabis a class C drug and gets more police attention judging by the numerous press releases. The drug that kills most people in Northern Ireland/North of Ireland is a prescribed opioid called tramadol.
A MD in the RVH warned the politicians and the Police years ago that a opiod epidemic was coming to are shores so they have had plenty of time to prepare for it but as usual the warning fell on deaf ears so it will get worse.
