BMG, A homeless woman in her 60s was moved from a garden area beside St Annes Cathedral to a tree in a Dundonald park for Culture night. She was told by the event organizers that her belongings made the place look messy and they feared that they could catch fire if a careless reveller dropped a cigarette.
Bloody disgrace the poor woman is still there living under a tarpaulin.

This seems to be the rule not the exception in recent years, shame.

3 Months in emergency Accommodation, 4 kids 2 adults, 1 night in a Hub, couple of couches, hotel rooms.

Multiple take away's, 4 bus journeys a day with 4 kids, stress, frustration, contacting every TD & Councillor, many visits to the council..

Crying kids, frustrated parents, budget that won't help, greedy landlords, even greedier estate agents. Horror stories all around from families in similar situation for 2-3 years, uncertainty about xmas, how will that work? living in hope and fear 24/7..

Then you hear this from Council " Your are actually lucky because you are on medical list and homeless list, the more time you do on the homeless list the better your chances"

Well my response was we do not feel very lucky and being told we must do our time on homeless list will help us, and even better you get extra time added on for this??

SO BE GOOD AND BE HOMELESS DO YOUR TIME FOR THE CRIMES OF THIS GOVERNMENT AND GREEDY LANDLORDS AND MAYBE WITH GOOD BEHAVIOUR WE WILL THROW YOU SOMETHING IN THE FUTURE😡😡

ANNE'S STORY       Anne - "I approve of myselfĒ

ďThe first lesson I learnt in life was how to walk on eggshells. When I was growing up, that was just how it was.  I was the carer; never the cared for.  Sometimes I got it right and I was mummyís special girl. I loved those timesÖbut mostly I got it wrong.  I preferred being punched and kicked.  It was better than the verbal abuse.  I wouldnít repeat here the names I was called, but I hear them still, even now.

I left when I was still young.

But I soon discovered that although you can move away physically, the abuse stays there, locked inside. You become your own abuser, recreating in your adult relationships all the abuse you experienced as a child.  I never defended myself, because I hated myself more than those who abused me.

And so I finally gave in and returned  to care for my mother.  I became trapped and isolated, living continuously on the edge of homelessness.

Then I discovered The Welcome Organisation. I almost fell in the door, bursting with anxiety and loneliness, and full of drugs and alcohol.

The people I met there treated me like the person I actually am, not the abused victim I had become.

It changed my life.

I grew in confidence and started to attend the photography course.  Things really started to take off then.  I discovered my skills and it turned out that not only did I love photography, but I was really good at it! There was no stopping me then.

So today, as I sit here writing my story, I can honestly say I am a different person and that is the person I was always meant to be. I discovered that I wasnít dependent on substances and I didnít need to be abused to exist.  And whatís more, I didnít need the approval of others.  Why?  Because I approve of myself.   Itís that simple.

The motto I now live by is ďI am a strong and powerful personĒ.  But it took the Welcome Organisation to prove that to me and for that I am so thankful.Ē

We were given an inflatable camping mattress by Haven Outreach and we were delighted that she accepted it and allowed us to make her more comfortable, the statutory agencies continue to support Anne, as well as the local ladies and ourselves, unfortunately suitable accommodation is still not available and we will continue to work closely with Anne to ensure that her needs are met, Donna and Jim."

"Tonight we paid tribute to two homeless men who sadly passed away on the streets, Jimmy and Stevie, Jimmy was buried last week and Stevie yesterday, they were both gentlemen and didn't deserve to pass away in these conditions."

"We thank each and every one who turned up tonight and were so humbled to have Stevie's daughter and her husband turn up also, also all the homeless men and women who knew him more than we did, it was a very emotional service and very hard to say goodbye."

"Both of them are in a better place, they no longer have to suffer on the streets and no longer have to wonder what the next day will bring, thank you to Amethyst Outreach group for attending and also the Welcome Centre, and thanks to the security men in McDonalds for taking the time to attend."

"Nobody knows what tomorrow will bring and all we can do is our best to look out for these men and women and pray that we don't have to see this happening on the streets of Belfast or anywhere again."

"Thank you to Jim for dedicating a prayer to both men and also Dave for talking on behalf of his group, we are very proud of each and everyone of you that came out to pay their respects and we pray that god blesses each and everyone of the homeless and watches over them and also Jimmy and Stevie's families"   "xxxx"

??? here goes I will try once again putting my view across which hopefully will not be regarded as ď being off topic ď lots of homeless are not there through thier own choice   things happen in thier lives that changes everything   after seeing one programme where some those adults were abused as kids some new  step parents were introduced into the family and didnít get on with the new partners children   the underpaid jobs that is impossible for them to pay rent to private landlords   sure you canít get a job without an address   the way this country treats the homeless is shameful and to blame it on immigrants is nonsense    ::)  get yourself involved with the homeless people then see how your thoughts and behaviour change   itís the saddest thing to see people sleeping on the streets  , I applaud all those who go out night after night to check them make sure they have a hot drink and a bit of food .,., thatís whatís happening  2018   people dying on the streets itís so shocking  :(

There are plenty of hostels in Belfast for both male and female. No one is forced to live on the streets in Northern Ireland. FACT. Dublin is a totally different case. Perhaps they just need more direction as to their options. Many charities do sterling work in this regard. Unfortunately many homeless people through mental health or other disabilities don't want to find a home.  ::)

unfortunately people are afraid to stay sometimes because of the theft that goes on and some getting beaten in the hostels   at the moment the North of Ireland has no “ government “ to implement some changes to help with homelessness and mental health issues  :(  also the drug problem is growing and growing it’s just a sad sad world we live in today
