       ...    can't remember friends who didn't do so           ..    found it amusing when I first came to England

            discovered many many dropped their H            :D

When I grew up in Belfast I always said "haitch" like everyone else I knew. At the age of 25 I moved to England to teach in a primary school. My headmaster who was a stickler for correct pronounciation took me to task over it, and insisted on "aitch".
Mind you, he wasn't infallible. He once made the mistake of saying that Pilgrim's Progress was written by Chaucer.

 In School, when you were learning the Alphabet;

What way did you pronounce the "H ", when you were reciting the Alphabet...  AITCH. ::)

 https://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-11642588

 " British English dictionaries give aytch as the standard pronunciation for the letter H "

http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/haveyoursay/2010/10/do_you_say_aitch_or_haitch.html#sa-link_location=story-body&intlink_from_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bbc.com%2Fnews%2Fmagazine-11642588&intlink_ts=1543873928882-sa

" Part of the difficulty is that some people rely upon the spoken word rather than the written word to determine pronunciation, especially if they are illiterate - mischievous is a case in point.
 I don't mind too much if words are pronounced slightly differently to the way I use them, but this persistent use of "haitch" sounds as if it has left the mouths of simpletons.  What on earth were they taught at school, I wonder?"
