Shorts Factory Newtownards
« on: February 08, 2019, 10:56:21 AM »
Hi. I'm new to this forum and have found it fascinating looking through a lot of the articles on old Belfast. My query is a little outside Belfast, however, I'm sure there are a few members who could help me. I'm trying to find the location of the Short Brothers "Glen Works" factory in Newtownards during the sixties. Any direction would be greatly appreciated. Keep up the good work. Cheers!

Short Bros (Bombardier) factory is at the junction of Corry Street and Hardford Link, Newtownards.
I think they also have some units at Crawfordsburn Road/Hardford Link.

Wow that was quick! Thanks for the information. I came across a couple of photos of the Shorland armoured car at what, I assume to be the factory. That's why I was curious as to it's location. I don't appear to be able to attach them. Can somebody give me a quick idea as to how to upload them? Thanks again!

They have now vacated the Crawfordsburn Road facility. Corry Street is still there though, although there is speculation it will be replaced by the facility in Morocco.  :)

3 men that I know who worked in The Newtownards factory of Shorts.
Bobby Todd, who lived in Comber and played Hockey
Pat McAllister, welder who lived in Belfast
Lewis Coleman, who was also a farmer from Waringstown area.
All were there early to mid 60ís
