« on: March 25, 2019, 11:30:23 AM »

Hi everyone,

I need help.
I have an Ellen Nickell, Nee Stephenson, Nee Crainey. She married my Great Uncle Thomas Davison Stephenson, then went off to Canada with the Salvation Army. 2 Oct 1926 age 23 years.
Ellen was born on 30 May 1903 Belfast

Married Alfred Kerr Nickell on 29 Nov 1927 York Ontario Canada.

Alfred died on 31 Oct 1968. Toronto, Canada.

It's a long way round but what I am trying to find is her death.

Can anyone help.

Thanks everyone so much.

Alfredís death certificate should tell you whether his wife was still alive at that date. So that tells you which side of 1968 to search for Ellenís death. Did she die in Canada?

Hi Elwyn. Sadly I don't have the death certificate for his death.

I'm also not sure about Ellen.

Good morning Sam,

I see what you're saying. This confused me at first.

However, on Ellen and Thomas's marriage she has William John Crainey as her father. (Pay per view). Ellen taking his surname!!

Ellen was born on 30 May 1903  Different spelling for Crainey (Creaney). 24 Beechland Street. Can't make out the second part of the address.

So I assume she moved to Canada with Salvation Army after losing her child Also named Thomas Stephenson 6 Jan 1926 108 Ewarts Row. Leaving Thomas to remarry later.

Please note, 1911 census for the family under Crainey William J. 20 Ewarts Row. Can not locate the 1901 census.

Maybe you could help with this?

Sorry, the child Thomas's death was 1925 not 26. 108 Ewarts Row.

Wife and children living with her mother in James' Street in 1901:

This is a contender for William J in 1901, recorded as Rainey, serving as a private camped at the Curragh:

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Kildare/Ballysax_East/Curragh__Part_of/1442361/

William J was listed as a soldier en route to S. Africa in the birth registrations for his twin sons in 1904:

Wouldn't be the first time that Crainey was recorded as Rainey for this family, note also the street that daughter Mary Catherine was born at in 1899, in the context of where Ellen and children were living in the 1901 census:

Hi CMeG, Sorry for the delay.

Something to be going on with.

Interesting, the change in spelling (name)  I must remember this.

I appreciate the links.
