   Chase to Kamloops is around 50kms.about halfway is Monte Creek where a another famous hwy, joins the Trans-Canada. and a few kms further west is the B.C. Wildlife Park.  19 kms east of Kamloops.

   I maybe should talk about Route 97.   its the longest numbered road in B.C. from Osoyoos in the south to Watson Lake in the north. We have been on parts of this hwy. before on our trip to the Yukon.  1293 miles in B.C. and 663 miles in the U.S. OR 3196 kms TOTAL.

  From when we started our journey in Montreal to where we are now at Kamloops we have passed through 4 time zones,  eastern,  central,  mountain, and into pacific.   A distance of 4227 kms.

  Kamloops is at 3 major transportation routes, #1, #5  #97,   and 2 railways, Canada pacific, and Canadian national.

  #5 north to Tete Jaune Cache,is 340 kms long and is called the Yellowhead Hwy.  but its not really.

   Its about a 3 and a half hours drive.

   The real Yellowhead Hwy. starts in Winnipeg and becomes #16 just west of Portage-la -Prairie. and runs 3500kms to Prince Rupert on the B.C. coast.

   It enters B.C. from the land of greed at the Yellowhead Pass @ 1131m. in the Rocky Mountains. to Tete Jaune Cache on the Frazer river 30 kms west of Jasper. with the Cariboo Mts.to the west.

   Prince George, 264 kms west is where the long hwy #97 crosses the Yellowhead, which continues on, WNW to the coast at Prince Rupert, another 990 kms.   I never worked in that area,much as I would have liked to.

     Hwy #97 is called the Cariboo Hwy. running through the Cariboo Gold Rush country on this section down to 100 Mile House.

     There are lots of old mining towns to explore on the back roads.

     Barkerville is the most famous of the Gold Rush towns.

     Its about 190 kms south of Prince George via #97 to Quesnel, then hang a left on #26, and another 80 kms will take you into Wells and Barkerville.

     There is a 4 wheel drive loop which runs through Likely to Big Lake Ranch, joining # 97 again at 150 Mile House.  Maybe about 160 kms long, I never logged the distance.

  I worked about 50 kms south of Kamloops for quite a while in the 70s   At the Highland Valley Copper Open Pit Mine.

  As it was a long term job we stayed in Company bunkies on site.

  Iona Pit 1976, and the Jersey Pit 1977.

  Everybody had well paid jobs, no matter what you worked at by the mining company.

  Changed hands a few times over the years, but now owned by Teck Corp.

  Kamloops has changed a lot from the 70s

  This video is coming from Vancouver direction down the mountain. Lots of new development in this area.  Pacific Way exit #67 will bring you to lots of Hotels, Stores, and Eating places.

   Vancouver to Kamloops is 354kms by #5 (the Coq.) about 3 hours 40 mins driving time. By the Frazer Canyon #1 Trans-Canada, (the old highway ) about 435kms @ 4 hours 40 mins driving time.

  At the bottom of the mountain is a typical North American Strip.

  All your services are here,along the Hwy. Gasoline & Diesel, food of all kinds, Lube shops, Tire shops, etc. and a few older Motels.

  A quick stop and your gone again, which is what I usually do, very rarely stay in Kamloops.
