Remember it well. Sat in the backyard with a beer. Had the barbie going with a flashlight.  :D

I was at the n.service rd. and Winston Churchill Blvd. when I noticed the traffic lights were,nt working, got down to the ramp to the Q.E.W. which was backed up a bit. this was about 4.30pm.still did,nt know there was a blackout. Then the Q.E.W. came to a stop.
I lived at Bronte Harbour in Oakville at the time and it was over two hours before I got home. At 11.30 pm that night Lakeshore rd. (hwy2 ) wesrbound was still at a crawl.

Wiki reported that it was the second biggest blackout in history.  Good luck trying to get down Queen or King sts with the streetcars dead along the road.  Into the bargain it was 80+ degrees.

A lot of gouging for candles and batteries went on.

Lots of folk had a long walk down the stairs in the downtown towers. Could have been worse for me if it had happened earlier when I was at Steeles and Yonge.

I remember seeing cars abandoned the next morning from running out of gas.

I drove around the next morning, trying to get gas.

Just remembered Pizza Pizza had gas ovens and they set up a stand along Lakeshore rd. and did a roaring business, mostly slices to people stuck in cars.

Typical cover up after the report came out that First Energy in Akron Ohio were to blame. They never got charged for anything.
