Magee family enquiry
« on: April 30, 2019, 11:34:31 PM »
Hi, I am new to the forum. Does anyone have information about my grandfather John (Joss) Magee? He lived in Osman St, Belfast in the 1920s and 30s, and in Tyrone St, Belfast up until moving to Rathcoole in 1962. Patrick Magee

had he any connection to an Annie Magee when he lived in Tyrone St and is this him? or is Annie his widow or.
10. Magee, John, clerk
38. Magee, Mrs. Annie

do you know his denomination ?  you don’t mention his death ? Osman st and Tyrone st suggests burials would have been probably Millfield  for his parents . I don’t know Rathcoole’s nearest catholic cemetery
Stop now to see if you or others can help
good luck in your quest

Hi JimG(?),

Yes, Joss lived at 12 Osman St. My understanding is that the house was divided into flats.  The Ann Magee was unrelated, as far as I know. Joss died in 1967 and is buried in Millfield. My Grandmother Susan, nee Steenson, is in the same plot. The Steensons were originally from Baker St.

I do know a bit about Joss. He had been an Irish Fusilier during WW1 then transferred to the Connaught Rangers but was cashiered out because of the CR. Mutiny. Back in Belfast he joined the anti-Treaty IRA and was interned on the Argenta. Common enough story, given the times.

What I would really like is to fill in the many gaps.

Many thanks for yor response, Pat
